Macworld Following numerous complaints from iPhone 18 Pro Max owners, it’s now been officially acknowledged that some units have a problem placing calls, sending texts, and accessing data. Initially by the carrier AT&T, which sent out a message to customers warning about the issue and strongly advising them to update iOS “immediately”. And now by Apple itself. As seen by MacRumors, the carrier sent out the following text on Thursday: “Hi, it’s AT&T. Action needed: An important Apple software update for your iPhone 18 Pro Max is available. Some phones may be unable to complete calls/text/data, including to 911. Update to iOS 27.0.1 immediately — Settings > General > Software Update. Please contact AT&T or Apple if you have questions.” While this formal admission will be some comfort to affected parties–since the first step on the road to a fix is admitting that one is needed–the proposed solution may not be viewed kindly. Apple’s release notes for the iOS 27.0.1 software update do not mention fixing this issue. And many users who’ve encountered the bug explicitly report that updating to 27.0.1 doesn’t fix it. The problem was first reported in mid-September. “New [iPhone 18 Pro Max] ...

Macworld Since iOS 14, there is no longer an option to send photos as attachments. Apple changed the creation of new emails on iOS so that as soon as any additional formatting is used, the message is no longer sent as plain text but as an HTML email. As a result, inserted images are automatically displayed within the email and are not sent as separate attachments. Apple doesn’t seem like it will change this soon. Here are some tips for sending emails with images from the iPhone. How to send iPhone photos as attachments Use a different email app. To avoid embedded photos in emails, the most reliable method is to use a third-party email app such as Microsoft Outlook app on your iPhone and use it only to send photos. Outlook for iOS is available for free from the App Store. You can use the app as a standard email client, even if you don’t have a Microsoft subscription. When sending emails, remember to send the photos via Outlook rather than the Mail app. Since iOS 18, you can set a third-party email app as the default. Zip the photos. Another method is to send your iPhone photos as an archived ZIP file. This can be done using a shortcut called ‘Zip and Share Photos’, which we’ve made ...

Apple today confirmed that a "small number" of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on the AT&T network have experienced an issue that causes the device to lose cellular service, thereby preventing phone calls, text messages, and data from working. Thousands of users complained about the issue across the Apple Support Community and other platforms. Apple said it released iOS 27.0.1 earlier this week and an AT&T carrier settings update earlier today to help prevent more iPhone 18 Pro Max users from being impacted by this issue going forward. In a statement shared with MacRumors, Apple strongly encouraged all iPhone 18 Pro Max users to update to iOS 27.0.1 now. To install the update, open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on General → Software Update. The carrier settings update for the iPhone 18 Pro Max will automatically download for AT&T users over the next 14 days, according to Apple. To manually trigger the update, users can open the Settings app and tap on General → About. Apple's full statement: We have identified an issue affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on the AT&T network that may cause a device to lose service and be unable to make calls. AT&T and Apple are taking action today as they try to resolve iPhone 18 Pro Max cellular issues, according to MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris. Thousands of iPhone 18 Pro Max users have been unable to connect to the AT&T network for phone calls, text messages, and data. The underlying cause has yet to be disclosed, but AT&T and Apple continue to work toward a resolution. First, Apple today released an AT&T carrier settings update (version 72.1, up from 72.0.2) for iPhones. Given the timing of this update, it presumably includes some optimizations related to iPhone 18 Pro Max cellular connectivity, but it is unclear if AT&T has fully resolved the issues or if further tweaks will be necessary. When a carrier settings update is available on your iPhone, you will be prompted to install it. If you dismiss the notification or do not see it, open the Settings app, tap General → About, and the update should appear there. You can see your iPhone's current carrier settings version in the same About menu, next to your carrier's name. Second, Apple today started requiring iPhone 18 Pro Max users to install iOS 27.0.1 in order to set up the device, even though most if not all affected users h...

AI apps can reach far beyond the data Mac users intend to share, which has prompted Apple to take action and require clearer consent before granting access. Apple to tighten Mac Full Disk Access over AI privacy risks On Friday, Apple announced plans to tighten Full Disk Access controls on the Mac as AI agents gain access to sensitive personal information. The permission lets apps bypass privacy protections and could expose messages, email, files, and browsing history. Recent incidents involving Meta's Muse and other agents illustrate the risks. Not only can they access sensitive information, OpenAI recently fixed a bug in its Mac app that could have allowed its agent to become corrupted and run malicious commands on behalf of an attacker. In a post on its developer news website today, Apple announced that it will be introducing "additional controls" for the "Full Disk Access" setting on macOS due to new risks posed by AI agents. This announcement comes amid the rise of always-on AI agents like Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots, which have prompted privacy concerns. "Some developers are using Full Disk Access in ways that could put users at risk, exposing everything on their systems—including files, mail, messages, and even browsing history—without users' full knowledge and understanding," said Apple. "As AI agents become increasingly capable and autonomous, the risks associated with this level of access will grow substantially," it added. Here is the full text of Apple's announcement: We give developers powerful APIs to build incredible capabilities into their apps for Apple products, backed by a set of controls designed to protect users' private data. Full Disk Access largely sidesteps these controls in order to allow backup apps to function properly on the Mac.

We released iOS 27.0.1...

There are now patches to apply if you don't have any problems making calls on an AT&T iPhone 18 Pro Max. If you do, you need to get your phone replaced. iPhone 18 Pro Max Since launch, iPhone 18 Pro Max models have been dropping off the AT&T network. In some cases, never to return. After an OS update earlier in the week, and a carrier settings update on Friday, the problem may no longer manifest for those who haven't seen it. But, that doesn't help if your iPhone has issues already. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

There's a lot of crap to wade through on the assorted Android app stores, but there are some gems too. The "Mac.apk" project installs Android apps into your Applications folder, like any other Mac app. It's early yet, and the developer says that a lot of stuff doesn't work properly, particularly games with anti-cheat. My quick trial with the software has been pretty smooth, though. We'll be keeping an eye on this one. https://github.com/kksimp/Mac.apk-Releases Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums
